Watussi - Australia
Straight out of Bondi Beach, Sydney comes the dynamic 8 piece Watussi playing original Afro Columbian Rock and Roots. Taking their name from the Cuban slang for "The most handsome man at theparty", Watussi has taken the festival and live music scene in Australia by storm.
Lead by charismatic Columbian ex-pat, Oscar Jimenez, Watussi are a well-traveled troupe of Latino-tinged roots rockers. Having toured through Asia, playing in South Korea and Japan, the band also made their first trip to South America in 2010, where they were honoured with an invitation to play at the celebrated four-yearly Festival Iberoamericano de Teatro in Colombia.
2011 has seen Watussi continue at a frenzied pace: having already released their Tu Te Vas single and ‘1000% Handsome’ EP early on in the year, the band completed an extensive east coast Australian tour along with dates in New Zealand, and supported their musical idol Santana on his recent tour to our shores.
Watussi’s new album, titled El Olvido (The Oblivion) was released on the 16th September 2011 through MGM.
