Band of Thousands - New Zealand/Australia
Born from a love of making music together, Band of Thousands sees Adam Page and Riki Gooch
stretching the boundaries of what is possible with only two people on stage. With a healthy amount of instruments and electronic equipment with pretty flashing lights, the duo create a hypnotic and powerfully rhythmic aural palate drawing on influences from artists as diverse as Steve Reich, Martin Dosh, Sun Ra and The Meters with nods to the futuristic beat movement.
Apart from performing with Band of Thousands, Riki Gooch is currently playing drums with Lord Echo and Fabulous/Arabia while also producing for artists such as Ria Hall and Hollie Smith. Riki also leads the sometimes 40 member strong supergroup Eru Dangerspiel. This will be Riki's fifth year performing at WOMAD.
Adam Page has recently moved to Wellington from Adelaide, Australia to immerse himself in the rich musical talent NZ has to offer. Kiwi artists and bands Adam has worked and performed with so far include STRIKE, John Psathas, Lisa Tomlins, The Troubles, Rhombus (at WOMADelaide 2011) and, of course, Riki Gooch. This is Adam's first time performing at WOMAD NZ.
Make sure you catch Adam's solo looping set this weekend too!!
