Creating Hanging Baskets
A creative workshop with Jenny Oakley
Back by popular demand for another year is Jenny's creative hanging baskets workshop.
Jenny spent the English spring of 2000 touring English Garden Centres demonstrating 'Hanging Baskets and Container Gardening' with Ann Nicholas previously part of the 'Two Ann's team'.
Jenny has a Bachelor of Horticulture in Amenity Horticulture from Massey. She managed Hollard's Garden while it was administered by the QE2 National Trust and has accomplished a good deal of commercial garden design and maintenance.
She has been involved in beautification projects locally in Manaia and assisted the beautification team at Ellerslie in the early years.
Jenny and Guy's garden became a Garden of National Significance in 2005.
Jenny will inspire you with her workshop and you'll gain plenty of helpful tips to try at home.

Among topics covered will be hands-on demonstrations of pruning and propagation techniques.

Tupare - Russell Avenue
Restoration Project
A walk and talk with Mitch Graham Join a walk and talk with Tupare Garden Manager Mitch Graham, covering the planning and operation of the Russell Avenue landscape project at Tupare undertaken in the winter of 2011.
From the history of the avenue, to the whys and wherefores of the new design which features grassy steps formed with flat natural stones and framed with relaxed plantings of white flowers, leading up to a sheltered seat overlooking the River Flat.

Hollards Senior Gardener Sandy Powell has pursued horticulture since she was at high school.
She obtained a Bachelor of Applied Science degree with a major in Landscape Management. From here she went on to work at Hamilton gardens for four years before being lured back home to Taranaki.
Join Sandy to hear her impressions of Hollard Gardens and its impacts on her, with the odd tale or two on what makes Hollards such a neat place to work.

Designing and Planting a Small Courtyard
An informative workshop by Tristan Cave
Tristan is the director of Cave Landscapes and has six years experience as a landscape designer. After completing a horticulture degree at Massey University he worked as a nurseryman gaining a love for plants. During his travels to England he worked as a gardener/landscaper and became more interested in landscape design. From that point on with more travel, further studies the interest in landscaping developed into a passion and a successful business today.
Tristan will share with you some useful tips on how to make the most out of designing and planting a small courtyard
garden. Skillfully utilising climbers, topiary and scented plants this will be a workshop packed full of ideas you can apply to your own garden.
